Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Metallurgical Chemist with a focus on mining and metals to join our innovative research and development team in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in analyzing various ore samples, mineral concentrates, and process solutions to optimize metallurgical processes, ensure product quality, and support our exploration and operational activities. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analysis of ore, concentrate, tails, and process solutions using techniques such as AAS, ICP-OES, XRF, and wet chemistry methods.
  • Develop and validate new analytical methods and procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and safety in metallurgical testing.
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory tests to support process development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Interpret analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with quality control standards and safety regulations.
  • Assist in the characterization of mineral phases and their behavior during various metallurgical unit operations.
  • Collaborate with metallurgists, engineers, and researchers to provide chemical insights for process improvement and new technology development.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations in all laboratory activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a metallurgical or analytical chemistry laboratory, preferably within the mining or metals industry.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining analytical instruments such as AAS, ICP-OES, and XRF.
  • Strong understanding of inorganic chemistry and its application to mineral processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and validate analytical methods.
  • Excellent data analysis, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and quality assurance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Knowledge of mineralogy and petrography.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 standards.
  • Previous experience with base metals (copper, molybdenum) or precious metals analysis.
  • PhD in a relevant scientific field.
