Job Description
Are you a responsible 13-year-old with a passion for pets and a desire to help your neighbors and family friends? The Santa Ana Community Hub is facilitating a program for young, enthusiastic individuals to offer pet walking services within their immediate community. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience, earn pocket money, and strengthen local ties by providing trustworthy care for beloved pets. This role emphasizes building relationships within your existing network of neighbors and family friends, ensuring a safe and familiar environment for both you and the pets you care for.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely walk dogs in your immediate neighborhood or designated family/friends' areas.
- Ensure pets receive adequate exercise and attention during walks.
- Monitor pets for any signs of distress or unusual behavior.
- Maintain open communication with pet owners regarding their pet's well-being.
- Follow specific instructions from pet owners regarding routes, feeding, and special needs.
- Demonstrate reliability and punctuality for all scheduled walks.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals, especially dogs.
- Ability to handle dogs of various sizes and temperaments (with appropriate training/supervision).
- Responsible and trustworthy demeanor.
- Good communication skills.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience caring for family pets or pets of close acquaintances.
- Knowledge of basic dog behavior and safety (e.g., leash manners, avoiding hazards).
- Proximity to several pet-owning neighbors or family friends.
- Parental/guardian support for transportation and oversight (where necessary).
