Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Policy Brief Writer with a strong focus on short-form content to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating complex policy research into clear, concise, and impactful briefs, memos, and other short-form communications for a diverse audience, including policymakers, media, and the public. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional analytical skills, a keen understanding of public policy issues, and a proven ability to distill information effectively and persuasively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze complex public policy issues across various domains.
  • Draft compelling and accurate short-form policy briefs, memos, executive summaries, and op-eds.
  • Translate technical research and data into accessible language for non-expert audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, analysts, and communication specialists to ensure content accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Edit and proofread content for clarity, grammar, style, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Stay informed on current policy debates and research trends to inform content development.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of content campaigns and dissemination efforts.

Required Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (US English).
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive short-form content.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public policy processes and current affairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in policy writing, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a think tank, government agency, non-profit, or academic institution.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques for conveying policy insights.
  • Existing portfolio of published policy briefs, articles, or relevant short-form content.
