Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented DME (Medical Equipment) Pharmacy Tech with a strong focus on Home Care to join our Huntington Beach team. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in managing durable medical equipment, ensuring patients receive the correct devices for their home care needs, and providing essential support to our clinical staff and patients. You will handle inventory, process orders, verify insurance, and educate patients on the proper use and care of their medical equipment. This position requires excellent organizational skills, a compassionate approach, and a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Process orders for durable medical equipment (DME) based on prescriptions and patient needs.
- Manage and maintain accurate inventory of DME, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and quality control.
- Coordinate the delivery, setup, and retrieval of equipment for patients in their homes, working closely with delivery teams and clinical staff.
- Provide comprehensive patient education on the safe and effective use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of DME, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for DME, addressing any billing or authorization discrepancies.
- Maintain meticulous patient records, equipment logs, and all required documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Assist with equipment cleaning, minor repairs, and ensuring all equipment is in excellent working condition before dispatch.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and equipment coordination.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as HIPAA guidelines and company policies.
- Handle patient inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or State Registered Pharmacy Technician (if required by California state law)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting, preferably with DME experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with computer systems and electronic health records (EHR)
- Ability to lift and move medical equipment as needed
- Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record (if deliveries or home visits are part of the role)
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Previous experience specifically in home health or DME coordination
- Familiarity with specific DME inventory management software
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus
