Job Description

Berklee Online is seeking a passionate and experienced Music Technology Tutor to provide one-on-one and small group support to students focused on Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and music software. This fully remote position is crucial for helping students master the technical and creative aspects of music production, mixing, and sound design. You will guide students through various software applications, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide personalized feedback to enhance their learning experience and project outcomes. This role requires deep expertise in multiple DAWs and a commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and small group tutoring sessions remotely, focusing on DAW operation (e.g., Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, FL Studio) and other music software.
  • Assist students with understanding complex concepts related to audio recording, editing, mixing, mastering, MIDI, synthesis, and sound design.
  • Review student projects, provide constructive feedback, and suggest improvements in production techniques and creative approaches.
  • Troubleshoot common software and hardware setup issues encountered by students in their home studios.
  • Develop and share supplemental learning resources, tutorials, or tips to enhance student comprehension.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student progress.
  • Stay current with updates in music technology software and production techniques.

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in at least two major DAWs (e.g., Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, FL Studio).
  • Strong understanding of audio engineering principles, including mixing, mastering, and signal processing.
  • Demonstrated experience in music production, composition, or sound design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and patiently.
  • Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring in a music technology context.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet remote workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Music Technology, Sound Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with music theory and harmony.
  • Familiarity with various audio plugins and virtual instruments.
  • Portfolio showcasing personal music production or sound design work.
