Job Description
BayCare Health System is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Board Certified Music Therapist to join our interdisciplinary team in a hospital-based setting. This full-time position comes with comprehensive benefits, offering a unique opportunity to provide therapeutic music interventions to patients across various units, including palliative care, behavioral health, rehabilitation, and pediatrics. The Music Therapist will be instrumental in enhancing patient well-being, managing pain, reducing anxiety, and facilitating emotional expression through evidence-based music therapy practices. You will collaborate closely with medical staff, nurses, and other therapists to integrate music therapy into individualized treatment plans, contributing significantly to our patient-centered care model. This is an on-site role, deeply integrated within our hospital community.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs and develop individualized music therapy treatment plans.
- Provide direct music therapy services to patients and groups using various techniques (e.g., receptive listening, song writing, improvisation, music-assisted relaxation).
- Document patient progress, responses, and outcomes in electronic health records according to hospital standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
- Educate patients, families, and staff about the benefits and applications of music therapy.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and respectful environment for all patients.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training, and continuous professional development.
- Manage and maintain music therapy equipment and resources.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program.
- Board Certification (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a music therapist, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument (e.g., guitar, piano) and vocal skills.
- Strong understanding of music therapy principles, theories, and evidence-based practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Therapy.
- Experience with diverse patient populations (e.g., oncology, neurology, critical care).
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Additional certifications or specializations in related therapeutic modalities.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages common in the local community.
