Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Hospital Porters to join our essential team in Brighton. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to make a meaningful career change or for retirees seeking a fulfilling role in a supportive environment. No prior experience is required, as full training will be provided. As a Hospital Porter, you will be a vital part of our patient care, ensuring the smooth and safe movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital. Your empathy, reliability, and positive attitude will be key to creating a comforting atmosphere for our patients and supporting our clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and operating theatres, often using wheelchairs, trolleys, or beds.
  • Moving medical equipment, records, samples, and supplies efficiently around the hospital.
  • Delivering and collecting mail, laboratory samples, and pharmaceutical items.
  • Assisting with the management of waste and linen.
  • Responding to urgent requests promptly and calmly.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment and ensuring equipment is handled with care.
  • Communicating effectively and compassionately with patients, visitors, and staff members.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations and hospital policies.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Good physical fitness and stamina to perform duties involving walking, pushing, and lifting.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team.
  • A positive 'can-do' attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Discretion and respect for patient confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of health and safety principles.
  • Previous experience in a customer service or care-oriented role.
  • First aid certification (desirable but not essential).
