Job Description

FedEx Freight is offering an incredible opportunity to become a professional Heavy Vehicle Operator through our comprehensive, paid CDL-A training program. Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining your CDL-A, you will transition into a full-time Heavy Vehicle Operator role, responsible for safely transporting freight and upholding FedEx Freight’s reputation for reliability and excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and successfully complete all phases of the paid CDL-A training program.
- Learn and adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
- Develop proficiency in operating heavy-duty commercial motor vehicles, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Practice safe driving techniques and defensive driving skills under supervision.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to learning, attendance, and professional conduct.
- Prepare for and pass the CDL-A permit and skills tests.
- After obtaining CDL-A, safely and efficiently operate tractor-trailer combinations to transport freight.
- Perform required inspections and maintain accurate logbooks and records.
- Adhere to delivery schedules and ensure timely transport of goods.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and team members.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Possess a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screen.
- Commitment to completing a rigorous training program.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to lift and move freight weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience operating any type of commercial vehicle (non-CDL).
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
