Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Developmental Music Specialist with an Early Intervention Focus to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in providing specialized music therapy services to infants, toddlers, and young children (birth to 5 years old) who are at risk for or experiencing developmental delays. The specialist will design and implement individualized and group music interventions to support cognitive, motor, social-emotional, and communication development, working closely with families and other therapy professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive music therapy assessments to identify developmental needs and strengths of children in early intervention.
- Develop and implement individualized music therapy treatment plans aligned with developmental goals and family priorities.
- Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions using a variety of musical experiences (singing, instrument play, movement, listening).
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and psychologists.
- Provide parent education and support, empowering families to integrate music into their daily routines for continued developmental support.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress, treatment plans, and session notes.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
- Advocate for the therapeutic benefits of music in early childhood development.
- Ensure a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic environment.
Required Skills
- Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) designation or equivalent.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program.
- Proven experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, particularly in early intervention or special education settings.
- Strong understanding of child development milestones and developmental disabilities.
- Excellent musical proficiency (voice, piano, guitar, percussion) and improvisational skills.
- Ability to adapt musical interventions to meet diverse developmental needs.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with families and team members.
- Proficiency in written documentation and record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices.
- Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches for children with autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other developmental delays.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) to better serve our diverse community.
- Previous experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
