Job Description
Are you passionate about making a positive impact on young lives? YMCA in St Albans is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated After-School Club Leaders to join our vibrant team. This role is perfect for students, recent graduates, or anyone looking for meaningful part-time work that fits around their schedule. You will be responsible for creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children aged 4-11 after school hours. This is an incredible opportunity to develop your leadership skills, inspire creativity, and contribute to the well-being of children in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver a diverse range of engaging and age-appropriate activities (arts & crafts, games, sports, educational play).
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in your care, adhering to YMCA safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Supervise children during free play and structured activities, managing behavior positively and inclusively.
- Assist with the setup and clear-up of club activities and play areas.
- Build positive relationships with children, parents, and school staff.
- Administer basic first aid when necessary (training provided).
- Maintain accurate registers and records of attendance and incidents.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for working with children aged 4-11.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan and lead engaging activities.
- Patient, understanding, and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check (Enhanced Disclosure).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) in a childcare, education, or youth work setting.
- Relevant qualification in childcare, education, sports coaching, or youth work (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, CACHE, BTEC).
- Valid Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- Experience working with children with diverse needs.
- Specific skills in areas such as arts, music, sports, or drama.
