Job Description

Join the YMCA of the Conejo Valley as an After-School Music Program Leader! This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about music and working with children in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals, including students, who can inspire young minds through music, foster creativity, and build a positive learning experience during after-school hours. No extensive prior experience is required, just a love for music and a desire to make a difference!

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate engaging music activities for elementary and middle school-aged children.
  • Develop and implement creative lesson plans that introduce children to various musical concepts, instruments, and genres.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all participants.
  • Manage program materials and equipment effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding program activities and child progress.
  • Collaborate with other YMCA staff to coordinate program schedules and events.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and program reports.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of music theory and various musical instruments (e.g., keyboard, guitar, percussion).
  • Ability to engage and manage groups of children effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting (volunteer experience counts!).
  • Pursuing or completed a degree in Music, Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (training can be provided).
  • Knowledge of diverse music styles and cultural music traditions.
