Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Commercial Baker / Pastry Chef to join our vibrant team in Scarborough, Toronto. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to create a wide array of delicious baked goods and pastries for our valued customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial baking, an eye for detail, and a commitment to food safety and quality. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a wide variety of commercial bakery products including breads, pastries, cakes, and cookies.
- Decorate cakes and and other baked goods with precision and artistic flair.
- Operate, clean, and maintain commercial baking equipment, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards.
- Monitor inventory of ingredients and supplies, placing timely orders to prevent shortages.
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines, as well as company standards.
- Innovate and develop new recipes and product offerings to meet evolving customer demand and market trends.
- Train and mentor junior bakery staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Manage production schedules efficiently to meet daily targets and accommodate special orders.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation and bakery area.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Commercial Baker or Pastry Chef in a high-volume setting.
- Strong knowledge of various baking techniques, ingredients, and commercial baking equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated creativity and artistic flair for food presentation and decoration.
- Excellent understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a valuable team member.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift heavy ingredients (up to 25 kg), and work in varied temperatures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary degree or a diploma in baking and pastry arts from a recognized institution.
- Experience with large-scale commercial baking operations and production lines.
- Familiarity with inventory management software for bakery supplies.
- Knowledge of various cultural baking traditions and dietary restrictions.
- Certification in food handling and safety.
