Job Description

Kadlec Regional Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Forensic Nurse Examiner to join our dedicated team. This specialized role focuses on providing expert forensic nursing care with a strong emphasis on legal support. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive medical-forensic examinations for victims of violence, including sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse. You will meticulously document findings, collect evidence according to established protocols, and provide expert testimony in legal proceedings when required. This position demands a keen understanding of legal processes, exceptional clinical skills, and a commitment to patient advocacy. Specialized training will be provided to ensure the highest standards of care and legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical-forensic examinations for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of violence.
  • Perform meticulous evidence collection, preservation, and documentation in accordance with legal and forensic standards.
  • Document findings thoroughly and accurately, maintaining strict confidentiality and chain of custody.
  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and referrals to appropriate resources for victims.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, legal professionals, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care and justice for victims.
  • Prepare detailed reports and provide expert testimony in court proceedings as an advocate for victims and a witness to medical findings.
  • Participate in ongoing specialized training, education, and professional development in forensic nursing.
  • Advocate for patient safety, rights, and well-being throughout the examination and legal process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of forensic nursing practices, legal statutes, and evidence collection techniques.

Required Skills

  • Current RN license in Washington State
  • Minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience, preferably in ED, ICU, or Women's Health
  • Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in sensitive situations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Basic knowledge of legal processes related to forensic evidence and testimony
  • Compassion and empathy for victims of trauma and violence

Preferred Qualifications

  • SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) certification or equivalent specialized forensic nursing training
  • Experience providing testimony in legal proceedings
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in crisis intervention or victim advocacy
