Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Haul Specialist to join our dynamic team in Pittsburgh, PA. This critical role involves coordinating, planning, and executing the safe and compliant transportation of oversized and overweight loads. You will be responsible for navigating complex regulations, optimizing routes, and ensuring the secure delivery of vital equipment and machinery. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate all aspects of heavy haul and oversize load transportation, including route surveys, permitting, and escort services.
- Ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations governing oversized and overweight freight.
- Collaborate with drivers, logistics coordinators, and clients to ensure timely and safe delivery of specialized cargo.
- Develop detailed transportation plans, including load securement, equipment selection, and scheduling.
- Utilize advanced planning software and tools to optimize routes and identify potential challenges.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for complex projects.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all heavy haul operations.
- Provide expert guidance and support to drivers and operational staff.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in heavy haul and oversize load logistics.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations (federal and state) pertaining to specialized transportation.
- Proficiency in route planning and permitting processes.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Proficiency with logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid CDL Class A (preferred, but not mandatory for a desk-based specialist role if operational experience is strong).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with international heavy haul operations.
- Familiarity with specific regional heavy haul regulations in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic regions.
- Certifications in specialized transportation or hazardous materials.
