Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician for a specialized clinical role in our Simi Valley operations. In this critical position, you will play a vital role in preparing and dispensing life-sustaining medications for patients receiving home infusion therapy. This includes a strong focus on sterile compounding, inventory management, and coordinating with nursing staff and patients to ensure timely and accurate delivery of therapies. You will contribute directly to patient well-being by ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in pharmaceutical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile intravenous (IV) admixtures, including antibiotics, chemotherapy, pain management, and other specialized medications, in accordance with sterile compounding regulations and facility policies.
- Perform accurate inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating pharmaceutical supplies and equipment specific to home infusion.
- Assist pharmacists in the preparation, packaging, and labeling of medications and supplies for patient home deliveries.
- Coordinate with nurses, pharmacists, and patient service representatives to schedule and confirm medication deliveries and pickups.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant compounding environment.
- Conduct routine quality assurance checks on equipment and compounded products.
- Assist with patient education regarding medication use and storage, as directed by the pharmacist.
- Document all activities accurately in the patient's electronic health record system.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures, related to pharmacy practice and patient safety.
Required Skills
- Active Pharmacy Technician registration/license in California (if required by state law).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital, home infusion, or specialty pharmacy setting.
- Proven experience with sterile compounding techniques and procedures.
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique and USP <797>/<800> guidelines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in pharmacy computer systems and basic office software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- National certification (e.g., CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA).
- Experience specifically in home infusion pharmacy.
- Advanced knowledge of compounding specialized medications (e.g., TPN, chemotherapy).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for occasional local deliveries or pickups.
