Job Description
Join XPO Logistics as an Intermodal Truck Driver based in Sugar Land, TX. This position offers consistent local port work, ensuring you are home every night to enjoy time with family and friends. You will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting intermodal containers between local rail yards, customer facilities, and port terminals within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. This is a vital role in our supply chain, requiring a professional driver committed to safety, punctuality, and exceptional service. We are looking for experienced Class A CDL drivers who are ready to take on a rewarding career with a leading logistics provider.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer to transport intermodal containers to and from designated locations.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any defects.
- Hook and unhook trailers, including chassis and container combinations, ensuring proper securement.
- Accurately complete necessary paperwork, electronic logs (ELDs), and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Adhere strictly to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-maintained truck at all times.
- Maneuver equipment safely and efficiently in congested port, terminal, and customer yard environments.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules and pickup deadlines.
- Comply with all DOT regulations and company requirements for driver qualification and hours of service.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)
- Minimum of 2 years of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Proficiency in operating Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all traffic laws
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- HAZMAT endorsement on CDL
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
- Experience driving in port environments (e.g., Port of Houston)
- Experience with intermodal freight or container drayage
