Job Description

Join Manchester City Council as a Homeless Outreach Worker and play a vital role in supporting our city’s most vulnerable individuals. This is a deeply rewarding position for someone passionate about making a tangible difference in people’s lives. You will be on the front lines, engaging directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, building trust, and connecting them with essential services and pathways to stable housing. We are looking for empathetic, resilient, and proactive individuals who are committed to advocating for those without a voice and working collaboratively to create positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct street outreach to identify and engage individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Build rapport and trust with service users, understanding their unique needs and challenges.
  • Assess individuals for immediate needs such as food, water, shelter, and medical attention.
  • Provide information, advice, and practical support to access housing, health, and welfare services.
  • Advocate on behalf of service users with other agencies and departments.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and service provision.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate support plans.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual support plans.
  • Educate individuals on their rights and available resources.
  • Report safeguarding concerns and critical incidents according to council policies.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse individuals.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar outreach or support role.
  • Knowledge of local housing, welfare, and support services in Manchester.
  • Understanding of the causes and impacts of homelessness.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care or a related field.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
