Job Description

Join Optum as a Managed Care Pharmacy Technician in our office-based setting in Wesley Chapel, FL. This vital role supports our pharmacists in processing prescription authorizations and managing pharmacy benefit inquiries. You will be instrumental in ensuring patients receive timely access to necessary medications by facilitating communication between providers, patients, and pharmacies. Key Responsibilities

  • Process prior authorization requests for prescription medications according to plan guidelines and established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with prescribers' offices, pharmacies, and patients to obtain necessary information or provide updates.
  • Review and verify prescription information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Research and resolve pharmacy benefit inquiries, coverage issues, and claim rejections.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all interactions and transactions in designated systems.
  • Adhere strictly to all company policies, as well as state and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA) regarding patient privacy and medication management.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industry trends and plan changes.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA
  • Current Pharmacy Technician registration/licensure in the state of Florida (if required)
  • 1+ year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a managed care, retail, or hospital setting
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, office-based team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Experience with pharmacy benefit management (PBM) systems or health plan formularies
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations
  • Experience with prior authorization processes
