Job Description

SGS is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Metallurgical Chemist with a strong focus on mining and metals to join our dynamic team in New Port Richey, Florida. This role is crucial for our laboratory operations, involving the chemical analysis of various samples from mining and metallurgical processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex analytical tests, interpreting data, and providing critical insights to support our clients’ operational and research needs. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine chemical analyses on a variety of mining and metallurgical samples (e.g., ores, concentrates, metals, slags).
  • Operate and maintain a range of analytical instrumentation, including AAS, ICP-OES, XRF, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Interpret analytical results, identify trends, and troubleshoot anomalies.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and communicate findings to internal teams and clients.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control procedures, safety protocols, and laboratory best practices.
  • Participate in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations and analytical capabilities.
  • Assist in training junior chemists and technicians as needed.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related scientific field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a metallurgical or mining laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments such as AAS, ICP-OES, and XRF.
  • Strong understanding of wet chemistry techniques relevant to metallurgical analysis.
  • Solid knowledge of quality control principles and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Excellent data interpretation and technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Knowledge of mineral processing and extraction metallurgy.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
  • Certification as a Professional Chemist.
