Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Oncology Research Chemist to join our innovative research and development team in Wesley Chapel, FL. In this pivotal role, you will contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for various cancer indications. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, synthesizing, and characterizing small molecules, playing a direct part in advancing our oncology pipeline from early-stage discovery through preclinical development. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on challenging projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to life-changing therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute multi-step organic syntheses of novel chemical entities for oncology targets.
- Perform purification and characterization of synthesized compounds using various analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC).
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to guide synthetic strategies and optimize compound properties.
- Contribute to target identification and validation, lead optimization, and candidate selection.
- Collaborate effectively with biologists, pharmacologists, and computational chemists to advance projects.
- Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and analyses in electronic lab notebooks.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines within the laboratory.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field (or Master's with 3+ years experience).
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques.
- Proficiency in spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, IR) for structural elucidation.
- Experience with purification techniques (flash chromatography, HPLC).
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute complex synthetic routes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in an academic or industrial setting.
- Prior experience in oncology drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, or chemical biology.
- Familiarity with drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics (DMPK) principles, and ADME properties.
- Experience with automation and high-throughput synthesis techniques.
- Knowledge of computational chemistry tools and molecular modeling.
