Job Description

Are you a student with boundless energy looking for a rewarding summer experience? The YMCA of Greater Manchester is seeking enthusiastic and high-energy Outdoor Camp Helpers to join our team for the upcoming summer season. This is an incredible opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children, develop leadership skills, and enjoy a dynamic outdoor work environment. As an Outdoor Camp Helper, you will assist camp counselors with daily activities, ensure camper safety, and help create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist camp counselors in leading and supervising groups of children during daily camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and games.
  • Actively participate in and demonstrate enthusiasm for all camp activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, adhering to YMCA safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and positive camp environment.
  • Engage with campers, encouraging participation, fostering friendships, and promoting a sense of belonging.
  • Support counselors in managing group dynamics and resolving minor conflicts constructively.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of activity areas and equipment.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Required Skills

  • High energy and enthusiasm for working with children in an outdoor setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing camp needs.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children (e.g., babysitting, volunteering, coaching).
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Interest in outdoor activities, sports, or environmental education.
  • Enrollment in high school or college, seeking summer employment.
