Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Formulation Chemist to lead our team in Overland Park. This role is crucial for developing and optimizing innovative formulations across various product lines, ensuring performance, stability, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will drive projects from concept to commercialization, mentor junior chemists, and contribute significantly to our R&D pipeline with a focus on delivering cutting-edge solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of formulation chemists, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Design, develop, and optimize new product formulations from concept through laboratory testing, scale-up, and commercialization.
  • Conduct comprehensive stability studies and performance testing on new and existing formulations, interpreting results and recommending improvements.
  • Ensure all formulations comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines (e.g., FDA, EPA, REACH).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and regulatory teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
  • Troubleshoot complex formulation issues, recommend corrective actions, and implement process improvements to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, prepare technical reports, and present findings and project updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, raw materials, scientific literature, and market trends to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.

Required Skills

  • PhD or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in formulation chemistry within the chemical, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, or specialty materials industry.
  • Proven leadership or team lead experience in an R&D setting, demonstrating strong team management and project coordination abilities.
  • Expertise in various formulation techniques, raw material selection, characterization methods, and their impact on product performance.
  • Strong understanding of physical chemistry principles, stability testing protocols, rheology, and advanced analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, spectroscopy).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and a strong scientific rigor in experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, statistical software, and technical report writing, with excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies for formulation optimization.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property processes, patent applications, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
  • Familiarity with GLP/GMP environments and quality management systems.
  • Experience in the agricultural chemicals, coatings, adhesives, or specialty polymers sector.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP).
