Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Substance Abuse & Addiction Counseling Intern to join our clinical team in Pompano Beach, FL. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a structured clinical setting, working directly with clients under the supervision of experienced licensed professionals. The intern will support our mission by assisting in client care, group facilitation, individual counseling, and administrative tasks, contributing to a holistic recovery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed counselors in facilitating group therapy sessions.
- Conduct initial assessments and intake interviews under direct supervision.
- Support the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
- Provide one-on-one counseling support to clients as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records and progress notes.
- Participate in clinical team meetings and case conferences.
- Observe and learn various therapeutic modalities and intervention techniques.
- Adhere to all ethical guidelines and confidentiality regulations.
- Assist with program activities and administrative tasks as needed.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Master's or Bachelor's degree program in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Strong interest in substance abuse and addiction treatment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Basic understanding of addiction and recovery principles.
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observational experience in a mental health or substance abuse setting.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
