Job Description

Join UPS as a skilled Fleet Mechanic with a strong focus on heavy diesel engines. You will be instrumental in maintaining and repairing our diverse fleet of vehicles, primarily heavy-duty diesel trucks and trailers, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role requires expertise in diagnostic procedures, preventative maintenance, and complex mechanical repairs. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests on heavy diesel trucks and trailers to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Execute preventative maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
  • Conduct complex repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, braking systems, and electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, suspension systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities using computerized systems.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Order and manage parts inventory as needed for repairs.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior technicians when required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a heavy diesel mechanic.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel engines (e.g., Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR).
  • Strong understanding of air brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use diagnostic software and equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASE Diesel Mechanic certifications (e.g., T2-T8).
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B.
  • Experience with specific UPS fleet vehicles or similar large commercial fleet maintenance.
  • Technical degree or certification from an accredited automotive/diesel technology program.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
