Job Description

Join Providence St. Jude Medical Center as a Neurologic Music Therapist in a specialized clinical role. This position involves providing advanced music therapy interventions to patients with neurological conditions, contributing to their cognitive, motor, and speech rehabilitation. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, designing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on a deep understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialized neurologic music therapy interventions for patients with neurological injuries or diseases (e.g., stroke, TBI, Parkinson's, MS).
  • Utilize evidence-based Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) techniques such as Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS), Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT), and Therapeutic Instrumental Music Performance (TIMP).
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
  • Document patient progress accurately and maintain comprehensive treatment records in compliance with hospital standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to program development and research initiatives.
  • Educate patients and families on the benefits and techniques of neurologic music therapy.

Required Skills

  • Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) designation.
  • Certification in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT).
  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience specifically in neurologic rehabilitation.
  • Proficiency in various musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, percussion).
  • Strong understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and principles of neuroplasticity.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with interdisciplinary team collaboration in an acute or subacute rehabilitation setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Experience mentoring students or new therapists.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
