Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Geriatric Music Program Lead to join our vibrant team at our senior care facility in Irvine, CA. This flexible full-time role involves designing, developing, and implementing engaging music-based programs that enhance the quality of life, cognitive function, and emotional well-being of our residents. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of geriatric care, a strong musical background, and the ability to create person-centered experiences. You will lead group sessions, provide individual support, and collaborate with our activities team to integrate music throughout our daily programming. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a diverse range of music programs tailored to the needs and preferences of seniors, including those with cognitive impairments.
- Lead engaging group music sessions, incorporating singing, instrument playing, movement, and musical games.
- Provide individualized music interventions as appropriate, addressing specific therapeutic goals.
- Assess residents' musical interests and abilities to inform program development.
- Collaborate with the activities and care teams to integrate music into daily routines and special events.
- Manage music program resources, including instruments, equipment, and a music library.
- Train and mentor other staff members on how to incorporate music into their interactions with residents.
- Document resident participation and progress, adjusting programs as needed.
- Stay current with best practices in music therapy and geriatric care.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment where all residents feel comfortable participating.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated musical proficiency (e.g., piano, guitar, voice).
- Strong understanding of the therapeutic benefits of music for seniors.
- Experience in program development and facilitation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt programs to diverse cognitive and physical abilities.
- Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to working with older adults.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or a related field.
- Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC).
- 2+ years of experience leading music programs in a senior living or healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with various musical genres and cultural music traditions.
- Experience working with individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
