Job Description

As a Nurse Educator at Northwestern Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nursing practice within our institution. This full-time position, operating Monday-Friday, focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for our hospital staff. You will ensure our nursing team is equipped with the latest knowledge, skills, and competencies to provide exceptional patient care, foster a culture of continuous learning, and uphold the highest standards of clinical excellence. This role is crucial for maintaining our commitment to quality care and staff development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs and curricula for nursing staff.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify educational priorities, learning gaps, and professional development requirements.
  • Provide expert clinical instruction, mentorship, and coaching to nurses at all experience levels.
  • Integrate evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements into all educational initiatives.
  • Facilitate orientation programs for new nursing hires, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles.
  • Develop and update engaging educational materials, including presentations, handouts, online modules, and simulation scenarios.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through various assessment methods and adjust as necessary.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership, clinical specialists, and other interdisciplinary departments to ensure educational alignment with organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of educational activities, staff competencies, and professional development hours.
  • Stay current with professional development in nursing education, clinical practice, and healthcare trends.

Required Skills

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.
  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field (e.g., Education, Healthcare Administration).
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Proven experience in staff education, program development, and facilitation.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Ph.D. in Nursing.
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC).
  • Experience with Magnet Recognition Program standards and processes.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies in healthcare.
  • Experience with simulation-based education.
