Job Description
Are you passionate about healthcare and aspire to become a Registered Nurse? Inova Health System is seeking motivated and compassionate individuals for our Student Healthcare Aide program. This entry-level position is designed for students currently enrolled in a nursing program who are eager to gain hands-on clinical experience while contributing to direct patient care. As a Student Healthcare Aide, you will work under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, assisting with daily patient needs and learning the foundational skills essential for a successful nursing career. This role provides an invaluable opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge with practical application in a dynamic hospital environment, supported by a clear path for professional development within Inova.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake, and output accurately.
- Support patient mobility, including ambulation, transfers, and repositioning.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the nursing staff promptly.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients.
- Participate in ongoing training and educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program.
- Basic knowledge of patient care principles (gained through nursing curriculum).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed at least one clinical rotation in a nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA preferred) or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting (volunteer or paid) is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
