Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Senior Music Companion with a strong healthcare focus to join our dedicated team at Brookdale Stonebridge Ranch. In this rewarding role, you will leverage the power of music to enhance the well-being, engagement, and quality of life for our senior residents. You will design and implement individualized and group music programs, providing comfort, stimulation, and joy. This position requires a deep understanding of music’s therapeutic benefits, sensitivity to the needs of the elderly, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging music programs tailored to residents' cognitive, physical, and emotional needs.
- Facilitate individual music sessions, offering personalized musical experiences and companionship.
- Lead group musical activities, including sing-alongs, instrument play, rhythm exercises, and music appreciation.
- Assess residents' musical preferences and responses to tailor interventions effectively.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, activity coordinators, and family members to integrate music into care plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation, progress, and observations.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of residents during all music activities.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff or volunteers involved in music programs.
- Stay updated on best practices in music companionship and therapeutic recreation for seniors.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar) and vocal abilities.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a music-related role, preferably within a healthcare or senior living environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Understanding of the unique challenges and needs of elderly individuals, including those with cognitive impairments (e.g., dementia).
- Ability to adapt musical activities to suit varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple activities.
- Background check and health screening clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or a related field.
- Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) or relevant therapeutic arts.
- Experience with diverse musical genres and cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with therapeutic interventions for specific conditions such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
