Job Description

Are you a motivated 14-year-old eager to develop your leadership skills, inspire younger campers, and make a real difference this summer? The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities invites enthusiastic teens to join our team as a Camp Counselor Trainee. This unique program is designed to provide hands-on experience in youth leadership, camp operations, and community engagement. You’ll gain valuable mentorship, participate in leadership workshops, and assist experienced counselors in guiding daily camp activities, ensuring a safe and enriching experience for all campers. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all mandatory pre-camp training and ongoing leadership development workshops.
  • Assist senior camp counselors with the supervision and engagement of campers aged 5-12.
  • Help facilitate a wide range of camp activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and outdoor adventures.
  • Serve as a positive role model for younger campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Support the maintenance of a safe, clean, and organized camp environment.
  • Learn and practice effective communication techniques with campers, peers, and camp leadership.
  • Adhere to all YMCA policies and procedures, including safety protocols and child protection guidelines.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive camp culture where every child feels valued.

Required Skills

  • Must be 14 years old by the start of the camp season.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Strong desire to work with children and be a positive role model.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and adults.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to actively participate in various indoor and outdoor camp activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a camper at a YMCA or similar program.
  • Demonstrated interest in leadership and personal growth.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to learn (training provided).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
