Job Description
Join the dynamic education team at the Western Science Center as a Dinosaur Museum Educator, focusing on engaging public speaking. This role is perfect for passionate individuals who love to share their knowledge of dinosaurs and Earth’s history with diverse audiences. You will be responsible for delivering interactive presentations, leading guided tours, and facilitating hands-on activities that make learning about paleontology exciting and accessible. We are looking for someone with a strong stage presence and excellent communication skills, ready to bring prehistoric life to visitors of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate educational programs and presentations about dinosaurs and natural history to school groups, families, and the general public.
- Lead guided tours of museum exhibits, highlighting key artifacts and scientific concepts.
- Facilitate hands-on activities, workshops, and demonstrations that enhance learning.
- Act as a dynamic and welcoming ambassador for the museum, providing excellent visitor experiences.
- Assist with the development of new educational content and interpretive materials.
- Maintain a safe and engaging learning environment for all participants.
- Provide 'tips' and insights to visitors to deepen their understanding and spark curiosity.
- Participate in outreach events and community programs as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in public speaking, presentation, or performance.
- Strong passion for paleontology, natural history, and science education.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and manage diverse groups, including children and adults.
- Creative and adaptable approach to educational program delivery.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Biology, Geology, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a museum, science center, zoo, or similar educational setting.
- Knowledge of current educational best practices and interpretive techniques.
- Bilingual abilities (especially Spanish) are a plus.
