Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Specialty Baker to join our dynamic team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced baker to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship in a fast-paced retail bakery environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing a wide range of specialty baked goods, ensuring the highest standards of quality, freshness, and presentation. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of specialty breads, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods according to recipes and quality standards.
- Develop new and innovative recipes and product offerings to meet customer demand and market trends.
- Decorate and finish baked goods with precision and artistic flair.
- Operate and maintain bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
- Manage inventory of ingredients and supplies, placing orders as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene regulations.
- Collaborate with other bakery staff to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist in training junior bakers and apprentices as required.
- Provide exceptional customer service, responding to inquiries and fulfilling special orders.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Specialty Baker or Pastry Chef.
- In-depth knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
- Proficiency in preparing a wide range of baked goods, including artisan breads, cakes, pastries, and desserts.
- Strong artistic and decorating skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary diploma or certificate in Baking and Pastry Arts.
- Experience with large-volume production baking.
- Knowledge of current baking trends and dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, vegan).
- Experience in a retail or grocery store bakery setting.
