Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Sound Designer with a focus on video games and media to join our creative team in Santa Rosa, CA. This full-time position offers comprehensive benefits and the opportunity to work on exciting, cutting-edge projects. The ideal candidate will have a keen ear for detail, a deep understanding of audio principles, and proven experience in crafting immersive soundscapes for interactive media. You will be responsible for creating, editing, and implementing high-quality sound effects, ambient audio, and foley, collaborating closely with game designers, artists, and engineers to elevate the overall player experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and implement original sound effects, foley, and ambient audio for various interactive media projects, primarily video games.
- Work closely with development teams (designers, artists, engineers) to integrate audio assets effectively into game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity).
- Optimize audio assets for performance and memory usage without compromising quality.
- Maintain a consistent audio style and quality throughout projects, adhering to project guidelines and vision.
- Record and process source audio, including field recordings, studio recordings, and library assets.
- Participate in audio reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Troubleshoot and debug audio issues within game builds and engines.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and best practices in game audio and sound design.
- Contribute to the overall creative vision and audio direction of projects.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in sound design for video games or interactive media.
- Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAW) such as Pro Tools, Reaper, Nuendo, or Logic Pro.
- Demonstrated experience with game audio middleware like Wwise or FMOD.
- Strong understanding of audio principles, acoustics, and psychoacoustics.
- Ability to create compelling sound effects, foley, and ambient soundscapes from concept to implementation.
- Experience with various audio recording techniques and equipment.
- Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and their audio pipelines.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- A portfolio or demo reel showcasing relevant sound design work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design, or a related field.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., C#, Python) for audio implementation.
- Familiarity with surround sound mixing and spatial audio techniques.
- Knowledge of music theory and composition.
- Previous experience working on AAA game titles.
- Strong passion for video games and interactive entertainment.
