Job Description

Join American Iron & Metal (AIM) as a Trainee Scrap Metal Crane Operator and embark on a rewarding career learning to operate heavy machinery in a dynamic industrial environment. You will work under the guidance of experienced operators, learning the intricacies of various cranes and equipment used to sort, move, and process scrap metal materials. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in comprehensive training programs for heavy equipment operation, specifically scrap metal cranes.
  • Assist experienced crane operators with daily tasks, including material sorting, loading, and unloading.
  • Learn and adhere strictly to all safety protocols, operational procedures, and company policies.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment and assist with basic maintenance tasks as instructed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and problem resolution.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area within the scrap yard.
  • Demonstrate a continuous willingness to learn and improve operational skills and knowledge.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately to supervisors.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a demanding outdoor industrial environment.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual tasks as required (lifting, bending, standing).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an industrial or outdoor work setting.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or interest in machinery.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Forklift operation experience (an asset, but not required).
