Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Community Choir Conductor to lead our adult community choir. This part-time position involves conducting rehearsals during evening shifts, preparing the choir for performances, and cultivating a joyful and inclusive musical environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong musical background, experience in choral conducting, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with diverse community members. This role is crucial in developing the musical talents of our choir members and contributing to the cultural vibrancy of Wesley Chapel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging and effective evening choir rehearsals, typically two evenings per week.
  • Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires choir members of varying skill levels.
  • Teach vocal techniques, sight-reading, and musical interpretation.
  • Prepare the choir for public performances, including concerts, community events, and holiday programs.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere for all choir members.
  • Collaborate with the Arts Center management on scheduling, venue logistics, and promotional activities.
  • Manage and maintain choir music library and rehearsal materials.
  • Attend occasional meetings with Arts Center staff to coordinate programs and events.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in choral conducting, preferably with community or amateur choirs.
  • Strong musicality and proficiency in vocal technique, music theory, and sight-reading.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Organizational skills for planning rehearsals and managing repertoire.
  • Proficiency in piano accompaniment for rehearsals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
  • Experience arranging or composing choral pieces.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of musical genres and styles.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (provided by the Arts Center if not already held).
