Job Description
Are you a highly motivated and physically strong individual looking for an immediate start in a dynamic brewery environment? Kichesippi Beer Co. is seeking a dedicated Brewery Spent Grain Shoveler to join our team in Kanata. This crucial heavy labor role involves the efficient and safe transfer of spent grain from our brewing operations to designated collection points for local farmers who use it to feed their pigs. This position requires exceptional physical stamina, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe workspace. Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently and safely shovel spent grain from brewing vessels into designated containers or directly onto farmer collection trucks.
- Operate pumps and hoses to manage grain slurry and ensure proper transfer.
- Maintain a clean and organized spent grain area, including regular washing and sanitization of equipment and floors.
- Adhere strictly to all brewery safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with other general brewery labor tasks as needed, including cleaning, sanitation, and material handling.
- Coordinate with brewery staff and local farmers to ensure timely and smooth grain pickups.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors immediately.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical strength and endurance, capable of repeatedly lifting heavy loads (up to 50 lbs or 23 kg) and performing strenuous tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively in a wet, warm, and sometimes dusty environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of industrial safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a brewery, manufacturing, or heavy labor environment.
- Forklift certification (an asset, but not required for this specific role).
- A genuine interest in sustainable agricultural practices and the craft beer industry.
