Job Description

Are you passionate about food and eager to learn the art of artisan baking and pastry preparation? Booths in Kendal is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Trainee Artisan Baker / Pastry Prep. This is a fantastic ‘learn on the job’ opportunity for someone with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive training under the guidance of our experienced artisan bakers. You’ll gain hands-on experience in all aspects of bakery production, from mixing doughs and shaping loaves to creating delicate pastries and desserts. If you have a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a desire to craft delicious, high-quality products, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced bakers and pastry chefs in daily production tasks.
  • Learn and practice various baking techniques, including mixing, kneading, shaping, and proofing.
  • Prepare ingredients, including measuring, scaling, and organizing for efficiency.
  • Understand and adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bakery workstation and equipment.
  • Assist with decorating and finishing baked goods and pastries.
  • Learn to operate and clean bakery equipment safely.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Required Skills

  • Enthusiasm and a genuine interest in baking and pastry making.
  • Strong willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic understanding of food safety principles (training provided).
  • Reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment (even home baking!).
  • A Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain one quickly).
  • Creativity and an eye for presentation.
