Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Multiplayer Network Tester with a strong focus on server stability to join our remote team. This critical role involves ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of our multiplayer game servers across various titles. You will be instrumental in identifying, reproducing, and meticulously documenting server-side bugs, network latency issues, and scalability problems. This is a 100% remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the US.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive test plans specifically designed for server stability, network performance, and multiplayer functionality.
- Monitor server logs, performance metrics, and network traffic to identify potential issues proactively.
- Replicate and thoroughly document server-side defects, network desynchronization, connectivity problems, and other multiplayer-specific bugs.
- Collaborate closely with development and engineering teams to understand server architecture, network protocols, and game mechanics.
- Provide detailed, actionable feedback on network performance, latency, lag, and overall server health.
- Participate actively in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings, offering insights from a testing perspective.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes, tools, and automation frameworks.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (2+ years) in QA testing for multiplayer video games.
- Strong understanding of client-server architecture and common network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP).
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark) and debugging techniques.
- Ability to analyze server logs, network packets, and performance data effectively.
- Excellent bug reporting, documentation, and verbal/written communication skills.
- Familiarity with various operating systems and gaming platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related technical field.
- Experience with cloud gaming platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) or distributed systems.
- Scripting experience (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for test automation or data analysis.
- Knowledge of database systems and SQL.
- A deep passion for video games and an understanding of common multiplayer game issues.
