Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Livestock Hauler for specialized long-haul routes. This crucial role involves transporting live animals across significant distances, demanding exceptional driving skills, a profound commitment to animal welfare, and strict adherence to all DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in long-haul trucking, a clean safety record, and a genuine understanding of the unique requirements involved in livestock transportation. You will be responsible for ensuring the comfort, safety, and timely delivery of our valuable cargo, contributing directly to the food supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate commercial motor vehicles (Class A CDL) safely and efficiently for long-haul routes.
- Load and unload livestock humanely and efficiently, ensuring animal welfare at all times.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers, including specialized livestock trailers.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, and all required documentation in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Monitor animal health and well-being throughout transit, providing water and rest as needed and prescribed.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS).
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, farm personnel, and receiving facilities.
- Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment as necessary.
- Maintain a clean and organized truck cab and trailer.
- Represent JBS Carriers professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Class A CDL with clean driving record
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) verifiable long-haul commercial driving experience
- Proven experience with livestock transportation, including loading, unloading, and animal welfare protocols
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, HOS, and vehicle inspection procedures
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on long routes
- Strong commitment to safety and humane animal handling practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to perform duties, including climbing, lifting, and prolonged sitting/driving
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in specialized livestock hauling (cattle, hogs, poultry)
- Certification in Animal Handling and Welfare
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs)
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle repairs
- Geographic knowledge of primary livestock routes in the US
