Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and responsible Carriage / Horse-Drawn Tour Driver to join our team in historic Charleston, South Carolina. This unique tourism role requires a genuine love for animals, excellent driving skills, and a friendly demeanor to engage with our guests. You will be responsible for safely navigating our horse-drawn carriages through the charming streets of Charleston, sharing engaging stories about the city’s rich history, and ensuring the comfort and safety of both our passengers and our horses. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate horse-drawn carriages through designated tour routes in downtown Charleston.
- Provide informative and entertaining commentary about Charleston's history, architecture, and culture to tour guests.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the horses before, during, and after tours, including grooming, harnessing, and feeding assistance.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of carriages and equipment.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and company safety protocols.
- Assist guests with boarding and disembarking the carriage.
- Maintain a clean and presentable appearance for both yourself and the carriage.
- Handle guest inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated love and respect for animals, especially horses.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills for tour narration.
- Excellent driving record and spatial awareness.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical stamina to handle horses and carriage equipment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with horses or large animals.
- Prior experience in tourism, guiding, or customer service roles.
- Knowledge of Charleston history and local landmarks.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one (not always required for this type of vehicle).
