Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled and compassionate Burn Unit Nurses to join our specialized hospital wing. This critical role involves providing direct and indirect patient care for individuals with various types of burn injuries, from acute care through rehabilitation. As a Burn Unit Nurse, you will manage complex wounds, administer specialized treatments, monitor vital signs, and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement comprehensive care plans. This position offers crisis pay due to the immediate and high-demand nature of the role, reflecting the critical impact you will have on our patients’ recovery journeys.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to burn patients, including wound assessment, debridement assistance, and application of specialized dressings.
- Administer medications, fluids, and blood products as prescribed, accurately documenting all interventions and patient responses.
- Monitor patients' physiological status, recognizing and responding to changes and potential complications promptly.
- Educate patients and families on burn care, pain management, infection prevention, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers to optimize patient outcomes.
- Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment pertinent to burn care.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols and sterile techniques.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to burn care advancements.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an acute care setting, preferably in burn, critical care, or trauma units
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Proficiency in wound care assessment and management techniques
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) or similar specialty certification
- Experience with advanced burn care technologies and therapies
- Previous experience in a designated burn center
