Job Description

Join iHeartMedia in Nashville as a Radio Sound Engineer specializing in Live Broadcasting with a Shift Differential. This critical role ensures the highest quality audio for our live radio broadcasts, overseeing all technical aspects from studio to airwaves. You will be instrumental in maintaining our state-of-the-art equipment, troubleshooting issues in real-time, and collaborating with on-air talent and production teams to deliver seamless and engaging content to our listeners. This position requires flexibility for various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, for which a shift differential will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot audio consoles, microphones, and other broadcasting equipment for live shows.
  • Perform real-time audio mixing, equalization, and processing to ensure optimal sound quality for on-air broadcasts.
  • Conduct pre-show checks and calibrations of all studio and remote broadcasting equipment.
  • Monitor broadcast signals for quality, adherence to regulatory standards, and timely program transitions.
  • Collaborate closely with producers, on-air talent, and directors during live programming.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly to minimize downtime during broadcasts.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and upgrades of new audio equipment and software.
  • Maintain accurate technical logs and reports of equipment performance and incidents.
  • Provide technical support for remote broadcasts and special events as needed.
  • Adhere to all FCC regulations and company broadcasting policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Sound Engineer, particularly in live broadcasting environments.
  • Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and digital audio workstations (DAW).
  • Proficiency with broadcast audio consoles (e.g., Wheatstone, Axia, Lawo).
  • Knowledge of broadcast automation systems and playout software.
  • Ability to perform basic soldering and cable repair.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Familiarity with FCC broadcast regulations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Audio Production, or a related field.
  • SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certification.
  • Experience with IP-based audio systems (AoIP).
  • Knowledge of IT networking principles relevant to broadcast environments.
  • Prior experience with live music or talk radio formats.
