Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Dental Decontamination Lead to join our state-of-the-art dental facility in Akron, Ohio. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of instrument decontamination and sterilization, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards, and playing a key role in technical training for our dental support staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily decontamination, sterilization, and disinfection processes for all dental instruments and equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive technical training programs for dental assistants and support staff on proper instrument handling, decontamination, and sterilization techniques.
  • Ensure strict adherence to OSHA, CDC, and other relevant infection control guidelines and protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance and quality control checks on sterilization equipment (autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, instrument washers).
  • Manage inventory of decontamination supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Conduct regular audits of decontamination procedures to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous compliance.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and staff training.
  • Serve as the primary resource for all decontamination and sterilization-related inquiries and issues.
  • Collaborate with dental team members to optimize workflow and enhance efficiency within the sterilization area.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with best practices in infection control and sterilization.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in dental assisting with a strong focus on instrument decontamination and sterilization.
  • Current DANB certification (e.g., CDA, COA, CPFDA) or equivalent recognized dental assisting credential.
  • Proven leadership experience or demonstrated ability to train and mentor colleagues effectively.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA, CDC, and ADA guidelines for infection control and sterilization.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining sterilization equipment (autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., healthcare administration, public health).
  • Additional certification in infection control (e.g., Certified in Infection Control – CIC, DALE Foundation Infection Control Certificate).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Previous experience in developing and delivering technical training modules.
