Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Radio Sound Engineer to join our live broadcasting team in Aurora, Colorado. This role is critical for ensuring the highest quality audio for our live shows, news segments, and events. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical aspects of sound production, mixing, and on-air operations, often requiring work during non-traditional hours with a shift differential applied. You will work closely with producers, hosts, and technical directors to deliver a flawless audio experience to our listeners.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate audio consoles and equipment for live on-air broadcasting, including mixing, routing, and processing audio signals.
- Monitor broadcast audio quality and troubleshoot technical issues in real-time to maintain continuous on-air presence.
- Set up, test, and maintain microphones, headphones, and other audio peripherals for studio guests and hosts.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of studio equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
- Assist in the production of pre-recorded segments, promos, and commercials, ensuring high audio standards.
- Collaborate with producers and talent to achieve desired sound aesthetics for various programs.
- Adhere to all FCC regulations and company broadcast standards.
- Participate in emergency broadcast procedures and equipment tests.
- Document equipment issues and maintenance activities.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a sound engineer or audio technician in a live broadcast environment.
- Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) and broadcast automation systems (e.g., WideOrbit, ENCO, Adobe Audition).
- Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, and microphone techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex audio equipment and systems under pressure.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
- SBE Certification (Society of Broadcast Engineers).
- Experience with remote broadcasting setups and field audio recording.
- Familiarity with IP-based audio networking (e.g., Dante, AES67).
- Knowledge of video production fundamentals (for simulcast purposes).
