Job Description
Are you a compassionate and organized individual with a passion for animal welfare? The RSPCA is seeking an Animal Shelter Intake Coordinator to join our dedicated team in Port Talbot. In this critical role, you will be the first point of contact for animals entering our care, ensuring a smooth, humane, and efficient intake process. You will play a vital part in assessing animal needs, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with various departments to provide the best possible outcomes for every animal. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the intake process for all incoming animals, including stray, surrendered, and rescued animals.
- Conduct initial health and temperament assessments upon arrival.
- Accurately record all animal information in our database, including intake forms, medical history, and behavioural notes.
- Coordinate with veterinary staff for immediate medical attention and vaccinations.
- Liaise with the animal care team to ensure appropriate housing and care plans are established.
- Communicate with the public regarding surrender procedures, lost and found animals, and adoption inquiries.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date animal records, both digital and physical.
- Assist in creating and updating animal profiles for adoption listings.
- Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations and internal policies during the intake process.
- Provide compassionate support and guidance to individuals surrendering animals.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable experience in animal handling and care, preferably in a shelter or veterinary setting.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize and remain calm in stressful situations.
- Proficiency in database management and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of animal behaviour, common animal diseases, and basic first aid.
- Physical ability to lift and handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Valid UK driving license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognized qualification in animal care, veterinary assisting, or a related field.
- Experience with shelter management software.
- Prior experience in a customer service role.
- First aid certification for animals.
