Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Automation Chemist with a strong focus on robotics and cutting-edge technology to join our dynamic R&D team in Pasco, Washington. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing automated laboratory systems to enhance throughput, precision, and efficiency in our chemical and analytical workflows. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of integrating advanced robotics and software solutions with traditional chemistry practices, driving innovation in our research and development initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, implement, and optimize automated liquid handling and sample preparation methods using robotic platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Agilent).
- Integrate new automation technologies and instrumentation into existing laboratory workflows to improve efficiency and data quality.
- Develop, validate, and troubleshoot analytical methods for automated systems, ensuring robustness and reliability.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and qualification of automated equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with chemists, engineers, and data scientists to understand experimental needs and translate them into automated solutions.
- Analyze data generated from automated experiments, interpret results, and present findings to project teams.
- Contribute to the development of software scripts and interfaces for robotic control and data acquisition.
- Provide training and technical support to laboratory personnel on automated systems and procedures.
- Ensure all automation activities comply with safety regulations and quality standards (e.g., GLP, ISO).
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in laboratory automation, robotics, and analytical chemistry.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in laboratory automation, robotics, or instrument development.
- Demonstrated experience with automated liquid handling systems (e.g., Hamilton STAR/NIMBUS, Tecan Fluent/EVO, Agilent Bravo).
- Proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, UV-Vis, or ICP-MS.
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages for data analysis and instrument control.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and data management.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Experience with process analytical technology (PAT) and multivariate data analysis.
- Knowledge of statistical experimental design (DoE).
- Familiarity with various programming languages beyond Python/R (e.g., C#, Java).
- Project management experience, particularly in scientific instrument integration or automation projects.
