Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Blood Donor Room Nurse to join our team in Baltimore, MD. This is an exceptional opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) looking for a predictable and rewarding role outside of a typical emergency room or hospital setting. As a Blood Donor Room Nurse, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and comfort of blood donors while adhering to strict regulatory guidelines. You will primarily be responsible for donor screening, phlebotomy, and monitoring post-donation recovery, working alongside a supportive team dedicated to our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform donor health history screening and physical assessments to determine donor eligibility.
- Execute safe and efficient venipuncture for whole blood and apheresis donations.
- Monitor donors during the donation process, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions promptly and effectively.
- Provide clear post-donation instructions and care, ensuring donor comfort and safety.
- Maintain accurate and complete donor records in compliance with all regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment and donation areas.
- Educate donors about the donation process, eligibility requirements, and the importance of their contribution.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize donor flow and experience.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain clinical competency and regulatory knowledge.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maryland
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficient in venipuncture techniques
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a clinical, acute care, or phlebotomy setting
- Experience with blood collection or apheresis procedures
- Knowledge of AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks) regulations and FDA guidelines related to blood donation
- Spanish language proficiency
