Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Cattery Assistant to join our team for part-time evening shifts at our Orleans location. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about feline care and are looking to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. As a Cattery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort, health, and happiness of the cats in our care, preparing them for adoption or assisting with our in-store foster programs. Your dedication will help provide a clean, safe, and loving temporary home for our feline friends.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of cat enclosures, litter boxes, and feeding areas.
- Provide fresh food and water according to established feeding schedules and dietary needs.
- Monitor cats for any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report observations to management.
- Administer medications as directed by a supervisor (after proper training).
- Engage with cats through play, petting, and gentle handling to ensure their social well-being.
- Assist with basic grooming tasks, such as brushing and nail trims, as needed.
- Maintain inventory of cattery supplies and report needs for reordering.
- Ensure the cattery area is always clean, organized, and welcoming for potential adopters.
- Adhere to all health and safety protocols and company policies.
- Assist customers with general inquiries about the cats and our adoption process.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and respect for animals, especially cats.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict cleaning and feeding protocols.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent observational skills to identify changes in animal health or behavior.
- Comfortable working in an environment with animal hair, dander, and odors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or paid experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or pet store.
- Basic knowledge of feline behavior and common health issues.
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Animal care or veterinary assistant certification/coursework.
- First aid certification (animal or human).
