Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Ceramics & Advanced Materials Intern to join our research team in Bowie, MD. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world projects involving the characterization, synthesis, and application of advanced ceramic and composite materials. The intern will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers, gaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and analytical techniques. This role is ideal for students passionate about materials science, seeking to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic industrial research environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the synthesis and processing of novel ceramic and composite materials.
  • Conduct materials characterization using techniques such as SEM, XRD, mechanical testing, and thermal analysis.
  • Perform literature reviews to support ongoing research projects and identify new areas of investigation.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members on various research initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Ceramics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fundamental understanding of materials science principles, especially in ceramics or composites.
  • Proficiency in laboratory safety practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, mechanical testing).
  • Experience with materials processing techniques (e.g., sintering, additive manufacturing, sol-gel synthesis).
  • Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, JMP).
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
