Job Description
Barking Abbey School is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Mathematics Teacher to join our dynamic and successful department. We are looking for a passionate educator who can ignite a love for mathematics in our high school students, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and academic achievement across Key Stages 3, 4, and potentially 5. This role is ideal for a qualified teacher eager to make a significant impact within a vibrant and multicultural school community. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging mathematics lessons to students across Key Stages 3, 4, and potentially 5, catering to diverse learning needs.
- Assess, monitor, record, and report on the learning and progress of students, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Create a positive, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages student participation, curiosity, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Mathematics department and across the wider school to develop curriculum, share best practices, and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, parent evenings, school events, and ongoing professional development activities.
- Contribute to the pastoral care and well-being of students, upholding school policies and promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Utilise a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technologies to enhance the learning experience and maintain student engagement.
Required Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an internationally recognized equivalent.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrable experience teaching Mathematics effectively at a high school level (Key Stages 3 & 4 at minimum).
- Excellent subject knowledge and a genuine passion for mathematics.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching A-Level (Key Stage 5) Mathematics.
- Familiarity with the UK National Curriculum for Mathematics.
- Experience working within a diverse and multicultural school environment.
- Proficiency in integrating educational technology and digital resources into teaching practices.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in mathematics education.
